Call for Panels

As in previous EST Congresses, the 12th EST Congress at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków will be organised primarily around thematic panels. The call for panels in open until 15 January 2027.

Central and Eastern Europe has changed tremendously since the inaugural EST Congress held in Prague in 1995 – and so has our (inter)discipline. The general theme of the 2028 event, “Diversity and Unity in Translation and Interpreting Studies”, is meant to capture the multidirectional growth of TIS research, as well as inviting reflection on what we share as a community of scholars. Over the last half-century or so, translation and interpreting research seems to have been governed by two opposing forces. On the one hand, there is the drive towards consolidation, towards asserting identity apart from other disciplines, gaining independence within academia, as well as visibility and agency in the industry and in society at large. On the other hand, the concept of translation itself and the fuzzy boundaries of Translation and Interpreting Studies are constantly expanding and shifting, with researchers probing ever-new territories, theories, and methodologies. Today, our discipline appears as robust as ever, but also as fragmented. We want the Kraków EST Congress to represent this.

In this spirit, we invite both panel proposals that offer new conceptualisations and research avenues, and those that provide meaningful meta-reflection on or re-evaluation of existing TIS traditions across the world. Naturally, there are no thematic restrictions – we are leaving it up to panel convenors to propose exciting frameworks that will allow the presenters to showcase their best current research.

In order to submit your proposal, please use the form provided below. For first-time users of the Oxford Abstracts system, this will require creating an account. Link to the submission form

The submission deadline is 15 January 2027, 23:59 CET.
We are very much looking forward to receiving your panel proposals!

Restrictions on the number of submissions:

Please note that every individual can be listed as a convenor on only one panel proposal, as first author on only one paper, and as second or higher author on only one other paper. This means that you can still be involved in the Congress in three different roles. Thank you for understanding.

Members of the Scientific Committee and Local Organising Committee are welcome to propose their panels and/or papers as well (subject to the restrictions specified above).

Note on transparency:

After careful consideration and in consultation with the EST board, the organisers have opted for a single-blind peer review for panel proposals. This means that the names of panel convenors will be visible to reviewers, but not the other way round. Each panel proposal will be evaluated by two members of the Scientific Committee and one member of the Local Organising Committee. Conflict of interest procedures are in place.

Paper proposals will undergo double-blind peer review, with two reviews from SC members and one from a panel convenor (for papers submitted to panels) or a LOC member (for papers in the general session). Conflict of interest procedures are in place
